V Melantrichu, a traditional Czech restaurant on Václavské Náměstí, serves a beer by the same name, Melantrich, an unfiltered 12° light lager. Melantrich is brewed by Permon, which is located in the town of Sokolov, in western Bohemia. At first sight, this unfiltered lager is a rich cloudy orange. Being lightly carbonated, it’s got a very smooth texture, with a fresh aroma typical for lagers. It begins with a distinct tastes of hops, but as you swallow, the sweet taste of caramel becomes more noticeable. For a pale lager, there’s a flavor of malt, giving this beer some character.
