June is here, with all its oddly shaped sunburns, summer storms, and, for the first time, no smoking in Czech pubs! Whatever your feelings about cigarettes, the new law pretty much guarantees we’ll all be tasting our beer better from now on!
This month offers all of the variety and richness we’ve come to expect from the beer scene here, whether you want to stick with established and central events, or stray a little off of the beaten track.
So whether you want to chill on Naplavka with a cold craft brew, or compete in the bizarre (but probably very serious) sport of beer barrel racing, read on, we’ve got you covered.
Now in its sixth year, the Žižkov pivobraní festival boasts tastings from over 40 microbreweries and beer contests, as well as live music, food, and kids activities. With free entry thrown in we can’t think of any good reason not to go!
June 2nd-3rd, noon-9pm
Parukářka, Prague
This event is a little out of the way, but we’re including it nonetheless as Castle Křivoklát is well worth the visit, and because how often do you get to celebrate 500 years of something! A tasting line-up will focus on local beers, while music will be provided by a brass quintet. Admission includes your first beer and Křivoklát train station is just down the road for when it’s time to stagger home!

Now becoming something of a Prague institution, June will be playing host to the microbrew festival at Prague Castle. Located in the scenic Royal Garden, brewers from across the country will be out in force so you can taste what they do best.

We simply could not leave this event out of June’s line-up, small though it may be. The brewery hosts an annual beer rolling race (in fact they claim to host the world championship, which may well be the case if it happens nowhere else!). Teams must be brewers of some description, and registration is still open if you have what it takes!

Celebrating 80 years of the football team, SK Ujezd, this beer festival sponsored by Pivovar Lobkowicz should be perfect for sports enthusiasts. The program includes music, sport (and not just football), outdoor cinemas and discos, and of course beer. Well worth checking out!
June 16th-25th
Nad Statkem 118, Praha-Ujezd
For those looking to escape the increasing tourist traffic in Prague, any time spent in Brno is a great idea. Pivni Lekarna has been supporting independent beer makers in the city for some time now, and for the second year will be hosting a tasting festival.

Anyone who’s spent a Summer in Prague will know that Naplavka is the place to be this time of year. This year in a two day event everyone’s favourite riverside will be a beer-lover's heaven, with tasting from over 30 microbreweries and a beer flea market for buying and trading collectibles.

Spend your evening drinking some great beer and wishing a Hoppy Beerthday (not my pun I swear!) to Pivotéka Království, one of Pragues best, no nonsense establishments for tasting and buying craft beer.
