As trends go, Prague has been hit with the newest wave from the west...hot dogs. Letná’s Mr.Hotdog gives guests a taste of some serious dogs with one of Prague’s best microbrew lagers on tap.
These are no ordinary hotdogs. Meaty and lean, they’re made with meat from Amaso, the biological meat producer behind Ambiente’s Naše Maso and Čestr. Toppings range from spicy ketchup, homemade mustard and relish, to bacon and sauerkraut. We tried the New York Hot Dog, which was an excellent smokey combination of bacon, caramelized onions and spicy mustard, and the Chicago Style dog. A juicy, all beef hot dog, it was loaded with a tart sour relish, chopped white onions, and pickled peppers, stuffed in a poppy seed bun.
The one and only beer they’ve got on tap is really all that’s necessary to fit their delicious pub grub- Vinohradský 11°. One of the best lagers from a Prague microbrewery, its unfiltered body, nicely hopped and unbelievably fresh, give it a versatility that makes it easily drinkable but also substantial enough to stand up to greasier menu items like hot dogs, sliders, and chili cheese fries.
The menu also includes 4 types of sliders, and the side dishes are impressive: chili cheese fries, onions rings, coleslaw, and perhaps the most coveted of bar snacks, deep fried pickles. These are some awesome deep fried pickles. Served with spicy mayo, they are generously coated in crunchy panko crumbs, fried till crispy on the outside with a juicy pickle inside, while not being an overwhelming grease pit mess.
Slick, modern, and minimal, the decor inside Mr.Hotdog feels youthful and fun. This is a bistro/fast food style eatery, with a generous enough amount of table space. They also have daily specials, including a wide range of soups and do takeaway. All dogs can be substituted with a vegetarian or all beef version, and they have a veggie slider. Milkshakes, daily desserts, and a few cocktails are also on the menu. Prices are also fair and not outrageous, as some of these trendy places tend to do.
A fun place for starting a night out or just catching a quick bite with a good beer, Mr.Hotdog is a welcome addition to the growing number of restaurants that realize not only do we want novel, good quality food, but we expect something more than ordinary in our mugs too.
